Hearing with purpose: Enhancing auditory skills through effective training
By Amor V. Laquindanum, student of the Master in Clinical Audiology and Hearing Therapy
Abstract
The study explores range of auditory training techniques intended to enhance fundamental abilities like speech comprehension, sound recognition, and the capacity to keep up with conversations in difficult listening contexts in lieu of amplification devices such as hearing aids. And while hearing aid technology has advanced significantly, user’s complicated auditory processing issues are still inadequately addressed by these devices alone. This study highlights the importance of how auditory skills assist proper comprehension and communication amid an auditory environment where hearing-restoring device is not the ideal support system.
Highlighting the need for enhanced communication skills among auditory-challenged individuals, this master’s thesis explores how adult can improve their auditory skills through efficient training techniques. It emphasizes the efficacy of auditory training as an adjunctive intervention to hearing aids back-up by numerous research.
The study focused at the theoretical underpinnings of auditory training such as the idea of neuroplasticity, which holds that with focused practice, the brain can change and become more adept at processing auditory information. This study attempts to determine the most effective methods for improving adults’ hearing skills by using a methodical review of previous research and putting training strategies into practice.
The results of this thesis will aid in the creation of an all-encompassing auditory training-integrated rehabilitation plan which provide persons with hearing loss more control as the study leans toward improved auditory competency which may lead to enhance communication, social involvement, and general quality of life by including auditory training into their rehabilitation, the researcher aims to close the gap between technology solutions and the fundamental abilities required for efficient auditory processing.
